Frequently Asked Questions

What does a day at Chippewa Paws Unleashed look like?

We set the foundation for a good day by starting out with plenty of exercise in our 1/2 acre fenced-in area. Walking, sprinting, fetching, etc. take up the majority of our day here. Even in the winter, we aim for a minimum of three hours outdoors, weather permitting! When it's time to slow things down and rest, we utilize our newly remodeled dog room where each dog can find a comfy bed or kennel to calm down for a bit while enjoying soothing music or catching up on Netflix!

Additionally, we create a structured environment to ensure the safety of each member of our daily pack. While here, your dog will consistenly practice skills like door manners, leashing up in a calm and respectful state, walking as a pack while following the human leader, etc.

Is my dog a good fit for Chippewa Paws Unleashed?

Currently, we are able to care for dogs that are at least 4 months of age. Written proof from a veterinarian that your dog has had its rabies, canine distemper and respiratory vaccines is also a requirement. Finally, if your dog enjoys playing with other dogs, Chippewa Paws Unleashed is going to be an enjoyable environment for them!

What are our qualifications in caring for your dog?

We have owned dogs our entire lives and taken care of other dogs for almost a decade now. We have earned Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Psychology and Education, which have proven to be invaluable, as child psychology is not so far off from dog psychology!

What makes for a smooth drop-off when leaving your dog for the first time?

When you drop your dog off, we will come out and meet you, as things can get a little excitable with the other dogs! We have learned that dogs often want to do their job and protect their owners if they walk into the pack for the first time with their human by their side! Therefore, your dog will have a much smoother transition into the pack if we take them from you after meeting. This way, your dog can walk in and let the other dogs sniff and become acquainted with their new pal without your dog having to worry about you!

Why does my dog have to come for a day of day care

prior to a boarding stay overnight?

Through experience, we've seen the undeniable benefits of a day playing and getting to know us and the other dogs here before a dog is expected to feel comfortable enough to relax and get a good night's sleep. We are proud to say that dogs staying with us are more than happy and calm when it's lights out after a day of running with friends and getting rid of that pent up energy and anxiety that comes with staying at a new place.

Why should I choose this dog day care over the others?

We are located just a three minute drive off of Highway 53 in a rural setting with country views where we have the advantage of outdoor space.

Your dog will not be sitting in a kennel alone! Our pack has many opportunities throughout the day to enjoy the sunshine no matter the season and spend time where dogs were meant to be--outside! If the weather isn't cooperating, they spend the day wrestling, playing and training with us in our dog room.

Additionally, as a small, family-owned operation, we offer a home-like environment where the majority of the day consists of us spending quality time with the dogs in our care, playing and offering affection.

How will I know if my dog had a good day at Chippewa Paws Unleashed?

We guarantee a happy but tuckered-out pup at the end of a day. This looks like a dog who is ready to lay down at home but still has that wagging tail and bright face that lets you know they just had a great day of activity and snuggles. Plus, we are happy to send a few pictures throughout the day!

What should I bring for my pup's stay?

For a day of day care, all you need to bring is your dog! Unless they are still a young puppy that needs to eat a meal in the middle of the day, it is best that breakfast and dinner are eaten at home, and we provide treats here throughout the day. Toys and bones are not necessary, and in fact, can cause problems when a dog doesn't love sharing their treasured items with others (which is understandable).

For a boarding stay, you should bring your dog's food, any medications they take, as well as their favorite blanket or something that smells like home that can keep them company when it's time to go to bed.
